The Laboratories: Where I Learn to Breathe (2022)

Working ecologically both on the conceptual and practical level, Elise developed negatives with her own plant-based developer using seaweed as an alternative to chemical substances. These photographs were taken while location scouting for her film Where I Learn to Breathe.

Below the photograph is a lightbox table on which are placed the photo negative, the seaweed, and other elements used in the plant-based photographic developer. Halfway between the darkroom and a laboratory, the installation questions traditional photographic development.

This installation was made in parallel to her film Where I Learn to Breathe.
